Build your first chart

Charts visualise data from your inventory — applications by criticality, processes by status, assets by editor. Charts update live, switch between pie, bar, treemap, and other types, and let you click any segment to drill into the underlying assets.

Open Charts and create a new chart

Click Charts in the top navigation. The Charts list shows every chart already in your workspace, with its space and creator.

Charts tab in the top navigation.

Charts is one of the top-level sections, with Inventories, Views, Diagrams, and Nested maps. Anyone with access to the workspace can browse existing charts; what they can edit depends on the chart's space.

Create chart modal — name, space, destination.

Click Create a new chart, give it a name, pick Personal or Shared as the space, choose a destination folder, and confirm. A blank chart canvas opens, ready to configure.

Pick the data and slice it

Pick an Asset Type — Applications, Business Processes, IT Components, or any other type in your metamodel. Every asset of that type becomes available to chart.

The Measure defines what to compute. Assets count is the default — it counts how many assets match. Sum and Average need a Measured property to compute over (a numeric property like cost, headcount, or score). Distinct value count returns the number of unique values for the picked property.

Group by splits the result by any property or relation. Pick Criticality and a pie chart appears, drawn from your architecture data. Switch the property and the chart updates.

Switch type, style, and drill in

Use the Chart type row to switch between pie, bar, line, treemap, and more. For bar charts, set the X axis and an optional Breakdown to stack a second dimension.

Switching type doesn't change the data, only how it's drawn. The X axis and Breakdown fields appear when relevant — for example on bar charts — and hide for chart types that don't use them.

Appearance panel — values, percentages, labels, theme.

The Theme picker changes the colour palette. The Appearance panel toggles values, percentages, or labels on the chart itself. Click any bar, slice, or treemap cell to open the list of assets behind it — no extra filtering needed.

Export your chart

Once the chart shows what you want, export it as an image to drop into a report, slide, or steering committee deck. The chart stays live in Boldo, so when the data changes you re-export with one click.

Save, export, and favourite from the chart header.

The exported image captures the chart with its current theme, breakdown, and labels. Running the export later includes any new assets in the inventory.

Next steps

  • Pin charts on a dashboard to combine several views in one place.
  • Re-use the same chart across reports — it stays live and updates with your data.
  • Adjust your metamodel if a property you'd want to chart isn't there yet.
